My friend Matt over at NetManOne posted this hilarious video of a girl entertaining herself while stuck overnight at Pittsburgh Airport. Since many of you have been in the same boat, or are currently, I thought you might like it. Enjoy!
Acclaimed filmmaker, Ken Burns brings his latest documentary to PBS on September 27th and it’s about one of my favorite topics, America’s National Parks. Burns spent six years shooting footage and conducting over 40 interviews to showcase the history and beauty of the parks, what he calls “America’s Best Idea”. The series will air in six parts and is sure to be spectacular as Burns was given unprecedented access by the National Park Service.
Did anyone see the episode of Bridget’s Sexiest Beaches in Jamaica? I actually really liked it. Bridget hiked up a waterfall, stayed in Ian Fleming’s house (author of the James Bond books) and even went bobsledding. It definitely made me want to plan a trip to Jamaica!
It’s currently airing on the Travel Channel. Check their website or your local listings for times.
The Travel Channel has been airing a new show starring Ian Wright of Globetrekker fame. It’s called “America the Wright Way” and it follows Wright as he explores some of America’s popular cities.
At first glance the choice of host seems strange. Wright is British and normally found in far flung deserts and jungles getting by on a shoestring budget. Although some of his fans may disagree, I think the casting is genius. No American could get away with asking obvious U.S. history questions (There was a fire in Chicago??) or telling an angry protesting mob that America’s problems could be solved by drinking tea.
Wright’s combination of charm and silliness makes this one of the most entertaining travel shows to come along in years. Here’s hoping the Travel Channel allows him to film future episodes, currently there are six, and give him a better time slot than 11pm on Mondays. Of course, like all Travel Channel shows, it reruns many times so check your local listings.
All day today the Travel Channel will be showing programs featuring spooky travel destinations. From haunted hotels to creepy attractions you can find the best places to go if you like being scared!
Disney announced this week that it is launching a video on demand travel channel. It will feature four original shows, and air special events and concerts taking place at Disney’s U.S. resorts. Using their remote control, viewers can request more information by mail or an immediate phone call from a Disney travel planner during business hours. The channel, which will be free, is set to launch on Time Warner Cable, May 21st and Cablevision, May 29th. Disney hopes to expand to more carriers soon.
If you haven’t had a chance to watch the fantastic documentary, Planet Earth, that has been airing on the Discovery Channel this past month, you really must check it out. This amazing 11 hour film, is split up into sections by environment, like “Caves”, “Forests” and “Mountains”. It took 5 years to film and incredible devotion and risk on the part of the camera crew. The result is magnificent. You will see footage of far off places and rare animals never before caught on film. It will definitely give you a jolt to get off the couch and travel to see more of our beautiful planet or at the very least, to appreciate it more.
Planet Earth can be seen at various times on the Discovery and Science Channels and it’s also available to rent or buy on DVD. For more information and to view footage, visit the official website:
