JetBlue’s Jet Pass

A lot of people have been talking about JetBlue’s All You Can Jet Pass promotion. For $599, you can travel on as many JetBlue flights as you want from September 8 – October 8th. Passes are on sale while supplies last up until August 21st. Domestic taxes are included, but flights to Puerto Rico and international destinations are subject to additional fees. Flights must be booked 3 days in advance and only one flight per day is allowed. A $100 fee will be imposed for no-shows. If you already bought a Jetblue ticket for use during that time period, you can pay the difference and upgrade to the pass.

So, is it worth it? JetBlue flights are mostly domestic and generally inexpensive so if you are only taking one or two short flights it may not be. If you are going to fly 2 flights or more and at least one is a long haul, this might be a great deal for you. If you have the time and a bit of money, this would be a great chance to hop around the country visiting friends and family or just exploring for a month.

Discount Theater Tickets

Whether I’m in New York City or Las Vegas, I love going to the theater and watching live shows. What I don’t love are the high ticket prices and the long lines at half price ticket booths. Fortunately there are plenty of ways to get discounts on admission to performances all over the U.S. right from your computer!

-Theatermania is a great website which lists current shows playing across the country and features discounts of up to 50% for some areas including New York, Los Angeles, Florida and D.C. You do have to join the site for access, but membership is completely free.

-Travelzoo has added a “Shows & Events” category to their list of travel deals that is updated weekly.

-American Express offers discounts on a wide variety of events to cardmembers and if you hold a gold or platinum card you are often eligible for pre-sales and premium seating.

-If you work for a large corporation, your company may participate in a program which offers ticket discounts for upcoming shows to employees. One such corporate program is plumbenefits. Check with your Human Resources Department.

-If all else fails, Google the name of the show you are hoping to see along with the words “discount code” or “promo code”. Sometimes individuals or companies will post codes online that you can enter when ordering tickets to receive a discounted price.

A Deal For Contact Wearers

Renu Travel Kit

On a recent shopping trip, I stopped to buy a contact lens travel case. Even though they are small, simple plastic containers, they normally cost between $5-$6 per case. As I reached for one, I noticed that Renu, a popular brand of lens products, was selling a “travel kit” which included not only a travel case but a 2oz bottle of cleaning solution for under $3! I was able to get my case and some cleaner for half the price of a case alone!

If you wear contact lenses, and I recommend it over traveling with glasses everywhere, check out these new “travel kits” being sold as you may find a great deal.

Getting Around Geneva

Geneva Transport Card

If you find yourself visiting Geneva, Switzerland, don’t worry about getting around. Last year, all hotels, hostels and camping areas in the city began giving guests free Geneva Transport cards upon arrival. The cards allow unlimited use of Geneva’s entire public transportation system, including buses, trains and boats and are valid for the full length of the visitor’s stay.

Read and Return

Read and Return

Paradies Shops, located in airports all over the U.S., have started a new program called Read and Return that’s perfect for avid travelers who are also avid readers. Simply buy a book at one of their stores, read it and return it to any of their locations within 6 months to get 50% of your money back. Books in great condition are resold at a discount and worn books are donated to a charity supporting literacy. Any program that encourages reading and saves you money sounds good to me!

Visit the official website for more information and shop locations.

Travel Discounts – Members Only

You hunt for sales when you shop for clothes and clip coupons for the grocery store so why should you pay full retail for travel? A great way to get bargains is to join a club that offers discounts to members.

My favorite is AAA (America Automobile Association). For just $48/year, not only will you get roadside services when you have car trouble, but you’ll score special offers on hotels and attractions all over North America. AAA’s sister club in Canada is CAA.

If you or your spouse are aged 50+ you can join AARP (American Association for Retired Persons) for as little as $7.99/year. Members don’t have to be retired or American as long as they meet the age requirement. Discounts are similar to those offered by AAA but are sometimes better and more widespread.

Perhaps you are already a member of an organization that qualifies you for travel perks. Many clubs, corporations, alumni associations and churches have agreements with travel companies. A big one is Club Quarters, a members only hotel chain that offers low cost accommodations to member groups in popular cities. Check with your human resources department or head of your affiliation to see if you are eligible for any discounts.
