Coppertone’s DermaPhoto Booths
Now that summer is approaching and many of you are planning sunny vacations, I hope I don’t have to tell you to stock up on sunscreen. If you have any doubt about the dangers of UV rays, head to a Coppertone DermaPhoto Booth for a free UV photo which will assess the sun damage your skin has sustained to date. The booths will be popping up at participating Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, CVS and Walgreen’s stores across the U.S. through August. Check out Coppertone’s website to find one close to you.

While it is certainly a very wise idea to regularly apply a good quality sunscreen whenever you are in the sun, I worry that a device like the Coppertone Derma Booth (which most certainly does NOT reliably detect and reveal “sun damage”) may give folks a false sense of security. The true “damage” (risk of skin cancer, etc) may be much greater than that “revealed” by the Derma Booth.

ST-
Definitely, the Dermabooths are an advertising gimmick and I certainly hope that people don’t think they are a substitute for an annual skin check by a dermatologist. Still, if they get people talking about skin cancer and remind them about the importance sunscreen and sun protection, I think that’s a good thing.

I am checking each day for the location nearest to me. Believe me by the time the dermatologist identifies a suspect area, it is TOO LATE. I want to know beforehand as scars are always included in “treatment.” Everyone should know their photodamage areas. Thanks to Coppertone.
