Tales from the NY Times Travel Show
We had such a great time at the NY Times Travel show this weekend!

Rick Steves or as Will calls him, the Michael Jordan of travel, gave a lecture on European traveling. Fresh from a trip to Rome, he was more enthusiastic than ever about the continent, especially Eastern Europe and Turkey where he says exciting things are happening. What new shows can we expect from Steves? He says Istanbul and Greece are coming soon.

There were tourism reps from all over the world, but the Caribbean section was literally jumping, especially Jamaica where dancers on stilts rocked out to reggae music. Puerto Rico passed out “Bam Bams”, inflatable tubes which make loud noises when banged together.

The most innovative display was for Seaworld and featured live penguins! Eos Airlines, which offers all business class flights from London to New York and Dubai was a close second with a real business class seat set up.

I was disappointed not to find more travel related products at the show but I really liked the Samsonite Sammies Penguin Suitcase, which was not only cute but looked well made and roomy:

and mysmartpac, a box of all the basic toiletries needed for a 6 day trip in carry-on approved, earth friendly packaging for Him or Her:

Thanks to everyone who made us feel welcome. See you next year!
