Ice Ice Baby!

Bonhomme Carnaval

On February 1st, the Carnaval de Quebec kicks off it’s annual celebration of fun in the snow in Quebec City, Canada. It is the biggest winter carnival in the world and is particularly special this year as the city celebrates its 400th anniversary. The festivities include dogsled and canoe races, a snow sculpture contest and two large scale parade extravaganzas. Opening and closing ceremonies are held at an ice palace constructed each year for the party’s official ambassador, Bonhomme Carnaval, a red capped snowman.

While in Quebec City, don’t miss the famed Ice Hotel, also built each year completely out of ice, where you can spend the night or just enjoy a drink at their ice bar.

Got Shoes?

Saks Shoe Dept

The brand new shoe department at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City is so big (17,500 square feet to be exact) it has been given its own zip code by the US Postal Service! Visitors can access the 8th floor showroom by express elevator where in addition to finding over 10,000 shoes they can also obtain shoe repair services and stop for refreshments at a chocolate cafe. While the zip is strictly promotional, the retailer feels it’s fitting for the largest shoe store in the country which they consider a destination in its own right.

Everyone’s a Travel Agent

Filed under: Main Blog,Travel News — alena @ 12:01 am

According to the PhoCusWright Consumer Travel Trends Survey, 2007 was the first year Americans made more travel purchases online than offline. The gap is expected to widen as more travelers plan and book their own trips each year and use travel websites (like this one!) to help them make informed decisions.

Thanks to everyone for reading my blog and good for all the travelers out there taking control of their trips and booking their vacations on their own.
