Last Sail for the QE2

Cunard Cruise line’s Queen Elizabeth 2 is sailing for its final year. Called the most famous ocean liner in the world, the QE2 was launched by Her Majesty the Queen in 1967 and has carried celebrities, dignitaries and even troops. The ship has sailed 5.5 million nautical miles, a distance equivalent to 13 trips to the moon and back! 2.1 million passengers have been guests on the vessel which has completed 24 full world cruises. It is the fastest merchant ship in operation and by far the most beloved.
It was purchased by Dubai World in June of this year who plan to berth it permanently at the Palm Jumeirah, the world’s largest man made island, in Dubai. It will be refurbished and turned into a luxury hotel. The transfer will take place in November of 2008 so if you’ve dreamed of cruising on the QE2, better book your trip now!
